solar shades

The most popular use of solar shades is to eliminate glare from the rising and setting sun, while also reducing the cost of various methods to maintain a comfortable temperature in an outdoor, covered living space. Understanding a few properties about solar shades, like those from Sunesta®, will help to explain why they are so effective in this application.

Also commonly called sun shades, solar shades use fabrics woven from specially engineered materials to reduce the amount of sunlight that can pass through from one side of the shade to the other. People sitting behind a solar shade can see the landscape on the other side during daylight hours. The most immediately obvious effect of using a solar shade in an outdoor space is the elimination of glare from the sun, especially when it is low in the sky. Less obvious, but well worth considering, is the fact that solar shades provide occupants with significant protection from the sun’s harmful UV radiation.

The fabric weave allows for excellent airflow from one side to the other, as well. In all but the coldest climates, an outdoor space protected from the sun by solar shades create a very comfortable outdoor environment, reducing the exterior temperature by as much as 20 degrees. This effect has a substantial impact on the energy efficiency of the interior spaces, when solar shades are used in South- and West-facing patios, lanai’s and balconies.

The Sentry™ and Zipper™ lines of shades from Sunesta® are a very popular option for spaces that see little use during the buggy season. If you love the openness of your outdoor space but you find that there are certain times when mosquitos and other insects have you thinking about a permanent enclosure, zipper seam technology in Sunesta® shades can solve this problem by creating a bug-free barrier around all sides of the solar shade.

Sunesta® solar shades come in some of the largest panel sizes available in the industry, which makes them ideal for almost any challenging design. These sizes are possible only with the premium materials and components found in all Sunesta® products. Sunesta® also uses exceptional motors, that are under warranty for the first 5 years of ownership.
